DDR 256Mb 32Mbx8 400MHz trended up 4.8% in past week

In DRAM spot market, buyers show some resolve as the market inches back into positive territory. Making the most notable turnaround has been the DDR 256Mb 32Mbx8 400MHz which was up 4.8% from $2.31 on May 31 to $2.42 on June 7 early Asian market. During the same period, DDR256Mb 32Mbx8 333MHz was up 2.6% from $2.33 to $2.39. Low density SDRAM 1Mx16 and 4Mx16 were slight up from $0.47 to $0.48 and $1.02 to $1.03 respectively.

The transaction volume swelled on June 3 with a rumor spreading in the market that a DRAM maker experienced an unexpected power shut down in one factory and caused some wafers damage. DDR 32Mbx8 and 64Mbx8 suddenly turned as hot items in the market and eTT ( UTT) parts prices were boosted to $2.22 on June 6 as sources indicated the supply of Mira would remain limited till mid June.

1H June contract prices for DDR 256MB

The DDR 256MB contract prices for the first half of June has remained stable though the procurement volume have increased. PC OEMs have intended to lock in current low prices for longer term order to August, however, DRAM makers prepare to raise the prices once seasonal demand picks up. DRAM makers expect to get a chance to raise the prices for the second half of June or July. DRAMeXchange has forecasted contract prices to remain flat in June and slightly up in July and August while DRAM spot prices will be volatile depending on market demand situation. DDR 32Mbx8 400MHz may reach $2.50 soon if higher speculation demand involved in.

NAND Flash 8Gb to trade like roller coaster

NAND flash prices kept on downward pricing trend till June 2, however, market distributors and traders were reluctant to reduce their offer as Samsung has announced June contract prices higher than market’s expectation. NAND flash 8Gb was traded down 3% from May 31st to June 2nd and rebounded 3% to June 6. NAND flash 4Gb was down to $26.7 and made a positive gain to $28.5; 2Gb was up to $13.77 from $12.37 while 1Gb was stabilized in the range of $8.04 to $8.10.

Though marketers have raised their offer for NAND flash chips, however the demand has decreased as the buyers still request for lower prices and believe Samsung will reduce the contract prices further soon.
