SDRAM remains unchanged; DDR starts cyclical downturn

Demand for SDRAM turns slow; 16Mx8/32Mx8 stays stable

16Mx8 / 32Mx8 SDRAM’s prices stays stable and transactions turned slow in past week. The upturn momentum was dragged by DDR’s downturn. 1Mx16 was traded down ranging from $0.9 to $0.95. No one is willing to buy higher than $1 and China market asked for $0.90 on this part. 16Mx16 was down 1.2% due to sluggish demand. 4Mx16 keeps at staggering high level.

DDR keeps going down

The DDR market was in slowly downtrend over one month. The average price of 256Mb, 32Mx8 DDR 400 was down 11.3% from $4.6 ( 11/3/2003) to $4.08 ( 11/24/2003). Last Tuesday, the UTT parts were dumped to the spot market with $4.00- price triggered further downturn and most traders turned pessimistic and tried to clear the inventory. However, some DDR items such as 4Mx16, 4Mx32 and 8Mx16 still get support by not-so-bad demand. Generally, DDR 400MHz was down 4.9% from $4.29 to $4.08; DDR 333MHz was down from 4.5% $4.20 to $4.01; DDR 266Mhz was down 3.3% from $4.15 to $4.01.
