According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of Trendforce, February Notebook shipment has declined 21.8% month over month. Quanta and Compal have fallen behind expectation with a shipment record of 3.2 million units and 2.7 million units respectively. On the other hand, Pegatron February shipment dropped about 50% month over month.

Apple launched iPad2 on March 2nd, causing distraction in the tablet PC industry and posted a strong entry barrier to the late comers. According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of TrendForce Corporation, NB-OEMs (notebook original equipment manufacturers) recalled the flawed products right after Intel announced its flawed chipset in end of January. Intel brought up the B3 version cougar point chipset in the meantime. Thus, we estimated these factors will interrupt its shipment schedule by 2 to 3 weeks.

According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of TrendForce Corporation, 2H’February DRAM contract price remains steady. DDR3 2GB and 4GB average contract price stayed at $16.5 ($0.88/Gb) and $32($1.84/Gb) respectively. With a surging demand in Smartphone, tablet PC and cloud computing, DRAM vendors are planning on re-allocating the capacity onto mobile DRAM and server-basis memory. The over-supply in commodity DRAM, is thus, alleviated.

According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of TrendForce, 4Q10 DRAM contract price declined 50% and reached close to the bottom. After spotted a shrinking decline in January, February contract price seemed certain to rebound. DDR3 2GB average contract price remained flat while the session low contract price increased 3.23% from $15.5($0.81/1Gb) to $16($0.84/1Gb).

DRAM industry revenue decreased by 20% from $10.78 billion to $8.64 billion due to a 40% drop in DRAM contract price, despite of a 16% QOQ (quarter on quarter) DRAM output increase in 4Q10. 4Q10 DRAM contract price declined as the production technology smoothly migrated to 50nm and 40nm.

Despite the sluggish performance in retail memory card and UFD market, 4Q10 NAND Flash shipment bit growth increased about 16% QOQ (Quarter on Quarter) with the OEM orders of system product: tablet PC and smartphone. NAND Flash price were previously expected to decline after the restock peak.
