According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of TrendForce, 4Q10 DRAM contract price declined 50% and reached close to the bottom. After spotted a shrinking decline in January, February contract price seemed certain to rebound. DDR3 2GB average contract price remained flat while the session low contract price increased 3.23% from $15.5($0.81/1Gb) to $16($0.84/1Gb).

DRAM industry revenue decreased by 20% from $10.78 billion to $8.64 billion due to a 40% drop in DRAM contract price, despite of a 16% QOQ (quarter on quarter) DRAM output increase in 4Q10. 4Q10 DRAM contract price declined as the production technology smoothly migrated to 50nm and 40nm.

Despite the sluggish performance in retail memory card and UFD market, 4Q10 NAND Flash shipment bit growth increased about 16% QOQ (Quarter on Quarter) with the OEM orders of system product: tablet PC and smartphone. NAND Flash price were previously expected to decline after the restock peak.

According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of Trendforce, DDR3 1333 MHz 2Gb spot price surged from $1.83 to $2.03 before closing on Jan. 27th. Second day in Asia, the midday price arrived at $2.24, an impressive accumulated 22% increase in two days. On the other hand, DDR3 1333 MHz 1Gb raised 12% to $1.18.

PC-OEMs are holding on to their existing market share because they are facing a declining in Netbook demand. Asus launched Eee PC 1015PW and said they will introduce 3 to 4 more new models. Acer also indicated that Netbooks will still have their own niche market.

According to DRAMeXchange, a research department of Trendforce, 1H’Jan. contract price is reaching the bottom. DDR3 2GB “Average” contract price is $17(USD) while $16 for “Low” contract price. The decline is narrowed to 5%-6% from 10% in previous term. 2H’Jan. contract price is still under negotiation but we expect price will remain stable and mildly decline.

Market expected NAND Flash price would weaken after year-end holiday inventory re-stocking peak after November. However, Toshiba power outage accident made memory card customers to initiate inventory replenishment for Chinese New Year holiday starting from mid-Dec. given the expectation sentiment on output shortage in January.
