【Market View】Price recovery in spot market

Published 2003-08-26 (GMT+8)

:: A mild rebound in spot market

In contrast with the previous slump, the spot market is expected to recover this week. The demand as a whole turns out to be positive and the channel distributors resume inventory replenishment for back-to-school. As summer holiday is approaching to the end in Europe and mainland China, we anticipate a better demand will stimulate the spot price, especially the clone segment.

:: The contract price for 1H Sept. relies on the performance of spot price

The contract price for 2H August sustained the uptrend but the strength is smaller than the past few sessions, owing to a higher base and weak performance in the spot market. Under such an unsatisfactory market performance, DRAM vendors can only maintain a moderate increase in the contract market. In the same fashion, the price performance in spot market will become relatively important for the trend of 1H Sept. spot price. If the spot market can't demonstrate a robust rebound, indicating a weak demand from clone market, the spot price will find it difficult to surge.
